We are pleased to announce that Severn Valley Railway has purchased an Opera II SQL system through Pegasus Strategic Partner, Minster Micro Computers Ltd. Their system comprises: System Manager, Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Nominal Ledger, Invoicing, and Cashbook.
Severn Valley Railway chose to migrate from Opera II Enterprise to Opera II SQL as their requirements have changed following the integration of a newly constructed multi-million pound visitor centre at Highley station. They required a terminal client server based system with reliable wide area networks and the underpinning of an SQL database.
The Severn Valley Railway is a full sized, standard gauge railway running regular steam hauled passenger trains for the benefit of enthusiasts and visitors between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. The line was originally opened in 1862 as a main through route for passenger and freight traffic, but today, although it is still very much a transport link, it is principally in the leisure, tourism and education industries. It employs 120 staff with support from up to 1,200 volunteers, who perform many varied duties from driving and firing the locomotives to guarding the trains and checking tickets, running and maintaining the stations and gardens as well as repairing locomotives and carriages. Opera II SQL allows the main office to have full control over all department locations, at one central point.
